Weymouth Sailing, Dorset County, UK - N2
Sights, Places of Interest, Monuments and Landmarks of Weymouth, UK.

The above photograph shows part of the venue for sailing competitions in the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games.  Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour in Dorset are situated on the south coast of England and will be the venues for sailing events for both the Olympic and Paralympic contestants. It is the first 2012 Games venue to be completed and was delivered within the allotted budget parameters.

These locations have been chosen due in part to the excellent natural sailing waters and this site has already been the choice for numerous prestigious sailing events in the past.

The 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games will take place on the following dates:

Olympic Games
27 July – 12 August 2012

Paralympic Games
29 August – 9 September 2012

A purpose built Olympic Park will host a large number of events and will include; Olympic Stadium, Aquatics Centre, Basketball Arena, Eton Manor (wheelchair tennis), Handball Arena, Hockey Centre and VeloPark.

Other London venues will include; Earls Court, ExCel, Greenwich Park, Horse Guards Parade, Hyde Park, Lord’s Cricket Ground, North Greenwich Arena, Regents Park, The Royal Artillery Barracks, Wembley Stadium and Wimbledon.

Out of London venues will be; Eton Dorney (near Windsor Castle), Hadleigh Farm (Essex), Hampden Park (Glasgow), Lee Valley White Water Centre, Millennium Stadium (Cardiff), Old Trafford (Manchester), St James’ Park (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) and Weymouth and Portland.

Tickets for the 2012 London Games will not go on sale until 2011 and it is anticipated that 8 million tickets will be issued for the Olympic Games and 2 million tickets for the Paralympic Games.

The purchase of a ticket will include free travel on London public transport for the day for events in London, giving spectators the opportunity to enjoy the unique atmosphere that is anticipated for the duration of the games.

Not all events will be ticket only, Road Cycling, Marathon and Triathlon will be free to watch and large screens will be placed all across the UK to enable a wider audience to see all the action.
