| The Merry Maidens Stone Circle, St.Buryan, Cornwall, UK. Sights, Places of Interest, Monuments and Landmarks of Cornwall, UK.
The diameter of the stone circle is approximately 24 metres with a gap or possibly an entrance situated at the most easterly point. The stones are spaced out evenly and this causes some visitors to feel that the site is “too perfect” and therefore lose some of its magic and mystery. Others disagree and fall in love with the Merry Maidens even today, spending time sitting in the centre of the circle and just soaking up the atmosphere, whatever the true origins and uses.
It can be noted that in instances where people today have no real idea of what their original intended use was and in the absence of any practical solutions, a mystical one is attributed to the site instead, with theories about ancient rituals being connected to the sites.
What ever the real reason for this impressive construction, the Merry Maidens are sure to go on casting their spell over visitors and tempting them back year after year to this gorgeous corner of Cornwall.
