Sights and Places of Interest of India.
A large garden surrounds the Taj Mahal with raised pathways each dividing four quarters of gardens into 16 flowerbeds that are sunken. The centrepiece of the garden is a raised marble water tank sitting midway between the tomb and the gateway. The water tank has a reflecting pool in which a mirror image of Taj Mahal can be seen and photographed. Additional parts of the garden boast avenues of trees and fountains.
The boundaries of the complex are guarded by red sandstone walls that are crenellated with the side facing the river, left open.
The grounds open daily at 6am and close again at 7.30pm except for Fridays. The best time to visit is generally recognised as October, November and February being the cooler months.
This fascinating monument, Taj Mahal, is India's most popular tourist attraction and ranks as one of the top places of interest in the whole world being one of the
Seven Wonders of the World. The site also received recognition from UNESCO in 1983 as a World Heritage Site.
