The excellent skiing that Bansko is so proud of means that in February 2012 Bansko will host a round of the Alpine Skiing World Cup for both men and women and the spotlight of international ski enthusiasts will once again be on the small mountain town. Significant investment has been made into the facilities and infrastructure of Bansko, including the construction of the gondola ski lift in 2003 taking skiers up to the ski runs whereas before the ascent was made by mini bus.
