Located in western Asia, with Syria to the east and north, Israel to the south and 225km of Mediterranean coastline to the west.

Lebanon’s terrain is predominantly mountainous, with the exception of the Beqaa Valley and the coastline. The Romans recognised the importance of the Beqaa Valley in terms of agriculture and today it remains a significant location for agriculture.

The forested areas have now been seriously reduced, mainly due to poor management. So much timber has been taken from the once great Cedar Forests over the centuries, that only a fraction of the forested areas remain today. The Cedar Forests are represented in the national emblem of Lebanon.

A moderate Mediterranean climate is enjoyed along the coastal areas, where winters tend to be cool with a decent rainfall and the summers hot and humid. The higher regions can experience drops to below freezing during the winter, with frequent snowfalls, however generally enjoy warm and dry summers without the sticky coastal humidity.
