New York state, Emblem, Logo, Seal, USA. The Great Seal of New York was first adopted in 1777 and later received its coat of arms. The seal has a design of the coat of arms which has images of an American eagle, the two supporters Liberty and Justice mirror the images of the two ships on the river. A ribbon denotes "Excelsior" which means "Ever Upward."
