The Kremlin in Moscow is one of the most important monuments in Russia’s capital and is a unique piece of the planet’s cultural heritage. There is intense worldwide interest in the Kremlin’s history and the wonderful architectural monuments and buildings that are contained within it. Initially, the area was settled by Prince Vladimir and was a small and isolated Slavian community. In medieval times it became the capital of the north-east Russia and was one of the biggest in Europe at that time. The Kremlin is situated on a hill about 25m high and occupies an area of 27.5 hectares. It is surrounded by the famous Kremlin walls. It extends 676m from west to east direction and 639m from north-west to south-east. On one side is the Red Square of Moscow and on the other side is the Moscow, which forms a natural boundary r iver.
