Khajuraho Group of Monuments, India
Situated 385 miles south east of
Delhi , this group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples, is famous for amongst other things, its erotic sculptures. Constructed from sandstone, without the use of mortar, they were crafted using mortise and tenon joints, with gravity holding them in place to this day. Surely this fact alone pays tribute to the high level of craftsmanship, utilised during these constructions.
The name Khajuraho can be traced back to the Sanskrit word Kharjur meaning date palm.
