Monument to Peter I - one of the eminent people in Russian history who determined direction of the development of Russia in XVIII century. Battle of Poltava, which started on June 27, 1709 is one of the biggest battle of North War between the army of Peter I and the army of Swedish king Charles XII. The battle marked the end of Sweden as a great power and the rise of Russia as one.
