Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque,
Beirut, Lebanon
This Sunni Mosque is located in the area of Martyrs’ Square in the city of
Beirut and was built between 2002 and 2007, by the former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. The mosque was inaugurated by his son Saad Hariri on 17th October 2008 and his father is buried to the side of this impressive building.
The architect Azmi Fakhuri notes, that his inspiration came from the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, however hoped that his building in
Beirut had its own Lebanese character. The minarets are based on those of
Mecca ’s Grand Mosque and stand at a height of 72 metres.
