Khas Mahal, Agra Fort,
Agra, India
Another building of significant importance within the boundaries of The Red Fort in
Agra , Khas Mahal is actually another palace and was built in 1637 by Shah Jahan as a private palace. The palace was built for his two daughters Jahanara and Roshanara from marble stones and it is believed that Jahanara did live in the Northern pavilion.
The interiors were decorated in floral and geometrical pattern often utilising the royal colours of blue and gold. Some traces can still be seen to this day. The ornamentations covered large portions of the walls and some of the finest examples of painting on marble can be found in this palace.
