Karlstein
Castle is an extremely popular day trip from Prague and can boast as being the most visited castle outside of Prague. The castle is situated approximately 30kms south west of Prague and many organised excursions are available.
Construction of this medieval castle took place under Charles IV between 1348 and 1355. The castle served as a treasury for protection of the coronation jewels and documents of the state. During the 16th century some alterations were carried out in Renaissance style and then again neo-Gothic at the end of the 19th century.
