Jahangiri Mahal is widely accepted as probably the most important building within the Red Fort in Agra, it was originally built by Akbar for his son Jehangir. Entrance is made via a magnificent gateway to a central courtyard area with halls leading off from this courtyard. The building was originally used as a palace for the women of the royal household, mostly it is understood, by the Rajput wives of Akbar. The building has evolved over the years from its original construction and now reflects many interesting styles and eras.
