The Flag and the Emblem (Badge / Coat of Arms) of India. The national flag was adopted in 1947 and is based on the design of the Indian National Congress flag. The tri colour was introduced and derives from the Indian term. The flag is divided into three horizontal divisions with the colours saffron, white and green. The centre of the flag shows an image of a blue wheel with twenty four spokes and is referred to as the Ashoka Chakra.
