The Flag and the National Emblem (Badge) of the Fiji Islands. The national flag of Fiji was adopted in 1970 when it became an independent republic. The flag has a light blue background which symbolizes the Pacific Ocean, the Union Flag is evident showing loyalty to the British Empire. The shield of the national coat of arms is displayed to the left of the flag.

The coat of arms of Fiji displays historical elements and national elements. The shield represents the Cross of St George adopted from British sources. Two tribal warriors hold the shield and a ribbon which denotes the national motto lies at the feet of the warriors reading "Fear God And Honour The King."
