Flag, Emblem (Badge) of USA. The original flag was adopted in 1777 and had just 13 stars, the current flag "The Stars and Stripes, Old Glory" adorns thirteen alternate horizontal stripes of white and red and a rectangular canton on a blue background with 50 stars and was adopted in 1960. The 13 stripes represent the thirteen colonies, the 50 stars represent the fifty states which make up the United States of America.

The coat of arms or the great seal of the United States is used to authenticate government documentation and was first adopted in 1782. The design features a bald eagle clutching 13 arrows and an olive branch which represents war and peace.
