The Flag and the National Emblem (badge) of Australia. The national Australian flag was established and recognised in 1954. It is composed with a blue ensign, a white star which is known as the Commonwealth star which symbolises the federation of Australia approved in 1901. Also within the flag is a small Union Flag adapted from the British flag as Australia has a loyalty to the British Empire. The five stars located on the right of the flag represent the Southern Cross constellation which is one of the most prominent constellations in the Southern Hemisphere. Australia also has a flag exactly the same design but with a red ensign, these flags are used as the merchant shipping flags.

The coat of arms of Australia is the National Emblem. The design contains a shield of all the states of Australia, a kangaroo and emu which are the native animal emblems and a wreath which is a native floral emblem "Golden Wattle" As apparent on the national flag the Commonwealth Star is also located on the top of the emblem.
