The Taj Mahal,
Agra, India
Undoubtedly one of the World’s best known structures and an official UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, also regarded as one of the
Seven Wonders of the World .
It is estimated that somewhere between 2 and 4 million visitors experience the magic of Taj Mahal each year making it the top destination for tourists in India. This stunning monument, dedicated to one man’s love, stands as a testament to undying love to last for eternity.
Taj Mahal is a mausoleum built in memorial to Mumtaz Mahal, the third wife of Mughal Emporer Shah Jahan, who tragically died during childbirth. She was the favourite of the Emporer and her passing, it is fair to say, absolutely devastated him. Construction commenced one year after her death in 1632 and the principal mausoleum was completed in 1648 with the gardens and additional buildings reaching completion 5 years later. The Persian architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, is credited with being the principle designer of this amazing construction.
