Sights, Places of Interest and monuments of Larnaca, Cyprus.

Choirokitia Neolithic Settlement History – Part Two:

The building structure numbered XIX was destroyed and rebuilt in the same period as the building numbered XX. Two small structures situated next to them are also associated; however archaeological excavations are yet to be fully completed.

The above structure similar to IA is equipped with two stone support props which were most likely supporting a loft (second level).

Outside the furthest edge of the settlement protecting wall is the oldest part of the settlement. In between the discovered structures are numbered XXVII, XXVIII and XXIX forming a group, the ruins of it can still be seen. Each one of these buildings were used, it appears, for a specific use; one for sleeping, the other which was equipped in the centre with a fireplace was used for cooking and the third was for other domestic works.  This is confirmed by the uncovering of mill stones with a pot placed at the side for the collection of flour following the milling process.

Main activities were agriculture, cattle breeding and hunting.  Agriculture was based on the growing of cereals such as wheat and barley and legumes like lentils and peas. Evidence of the rearing of sheep, goats and pigs were also found.
