Catalonia Emblem, Logo, Seal, Spain. The coat of arms of Catalonia was originally adopted during the middle ages in the 12th century. The shield has four red vertical stripes on a gold background used throughout history to represent Catalonia. Originally used as an emblem for the counts of Barcelona the coat of arms is esigned with a royal crown.
