The local taverns or Mehana have great roaring log fires and sheepskin blankets on the seating benches to keep diners warm and snug while they enjoy the steaming dishes being brought to their table. Some Mehana offer local music to entertain and add to the feeling of a true Bulgarian experience. Much of the food is sourced locally with popular dishes including filling homemade soups, salads and Sach. Sach are cooked on clay dishes and usually include a variety of local meats plus onion and other vegetables, a real meal in itself. Take note though, the size of Sach are generous, so a starter may be unwise.
