Antalya Harbour, Antalya, Turkey.
Places of Interest of Antalya, Turkey.

Antalya City , Antalya, Turkey

An impressive International airport responsible for the handling of in excess of 18 Million passengers in 2007, most of them International, is the perfect access point from which to start your exploration, of this stunning stretch of Mediterranean coastline. The airport is just 10 kms outside of the city centre and offers regular transportation to many parts of this region.

The city’s recorded origins date back to the 2nd century BC and Attalos II, King of Pergamon.  The city is believed to have been constructed as a naval base for his impressive fleet, although many consider that the city dates back even further.  A statue depicting Attalos II can be seen in the city centre.

Nestled between the stunning Taurus Mountains and the Mediterranean coast of South West Turkey, Antalya is favoured as a holiday destination, not only by foreigners but by Turks too.  A rich cultural heritage is enjoyed in this part of Turkey and many places of interest are to be found, including various Roman sites, the most impressive of which arguably being the Aspendos Amphitheatre, Roman watch tower, Hadrian’s Gate, numerous city museums and several fabulous waterfalls. Many visitors from colder parts come for the sunshine and beaches, of which there are plenty in and around the Antalya area.

The Antalya Province is responsible for 30% of the total tourist count to Turkey each year, although still enjoys a thriving agricultural industry producing various fruits, cotton and flowers.
