Popular with sailors, these islands are the result of thousands of years of tremors and earthquakes. Over time the land level has lowered significantly with many parts being actually submerged into the water. Many tombs and sarcophagi are amongst those monuments now under water, literally making these islands the “city of the dead”. Although no diving is permitted, boat trips are available for visitors to explore this unusual site, within the safety of a boat and her captain.
